What to eat before a Challenge?

Preparing for Your FoodMarble Challenge

Getting ready for a FoodMarble Challenge may feel a little restrictive, but following these steps will give you the clearest, most useful results. Think of it as setting yourself up for success — a short bit of preparation for valuable insights into your digestion.

The Day Before

👉 Last meal before fasting: make it low FODMAP.

Think plain and simple: potatoes, rice (white or basmati), rice noodles, meat, fish, eggs, walnuts, cucumbers, carrots, olives, kiwi, strawberries.

💡 Keeping things simple here means your results tomorrow will be easier to interpret.

The Morning of Your Challenge

👉 No food except for the test food or FODMAP substrate.

Drink water as needed, but:

  • Avoid excessive amounts (can affect results)
  • Stick to sipping still water only

💡 A little thirst is okay — you’ll be eating again soon.

During the 3-Hour Test Window

  • Do not eat any other foods.
  • Continue drinking still water in moderation.

💡 You will probably feel super hungry during the test and this may feel very strict, but it ensures your results reflect exactly how your body responds.

After the Test Window Ends

If no rise in fermentation levels during the 3-hour test window:

  • Eat a light low FODMAP meal that you know you tolerate well
  • Keep testing hourly with your FoodMarble device

💡 This helps detect any late rises (common with certain FODMAPs like inulin), giving you a full picture of your response.
