What Intolerances Can I Discover Using My FoodMarble Device?


Using your AIRE 2 and food intolerance test, you’ll have the opportunity to test your body’s response to four common FODMAPs:


  • Inulin
  • Lactose
  • Fructose
  • Sorbitol


These tests can be completed through the FoodMarble program in the app, giving you step-by-step guidance as you establish your Baseline, Reset your gut and then explore your personal digestive responses through the Discovery stage of the program.


A quick refresher: What are FODMAPs?


FODMAPs are types of carbohydrates (sugars) that can be difficult to digest. When they aren’t fully absorbed in the small intestine, they move into the large intestine where they are fermented by gut bacteria. This fermentation process can lead to increased gas production and, for some people, uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

Understanding your tolerance to different FODMAPs can be empowering. It helps you identify which foods may be contributing to your symptoms, so you can make more informed choices about your diet.


The four FODMAPs you can test with FoodMarble


Inulin


Inulin is an oligosaccharide (that’s the “O” in FODMAP). Think of it as a chain made up of smaller sugar units. Inulin belongs to a group called fructans, and it’s found in foods like onion, garlic, and bread.


Lactose


Lactose is a disaccharide (the “D” in FODMAP), meaning it’s made up of two sugar molecules: glucose and galactose. It’s found naturally in milk and dairy products. Some people don’t fully digest lactose, which can trigger symptoms.


Fructose


Fructose is a monosaccharide (the “M” in FODMAP), which means it’s a single sugar unit. Alongside glucose and galactose, it’s one of the three main simple sugars in our diet. Fructose is naturally found in fruits, vegetables, and honey.


Sorbitol


Sorbitol is a polyol (or sugar alcohol) — that’s the “P” in FODMAP. It’s naturally present in fruits and berries, and it’s often used as a sugar substitute in processed foods. Sorbitol is sweet, though not as sweet as regular sugar (sucrose).
